Plus, let me guess that in Mediaplayer->Tools->Options->Filetypes you *unchecked* MP3 becuase you want iTunes to handle that. you already opened quicktime and within the preferences unchecked all the MIME types except for MP3s because you use iTunes (and the only reason you still have quicktime is the nazis at apple force you to have quicktime in order for itunes to work). If Windows Media Player is already set up as the default player. but Quicktime hijacks it because you set your Quicktime MIME types to open MP3s (and therefore mpg). During Windows Media Player setup, dont accept the first wizard page as if it were. you would think since its video, media player would open it. "mpg" is more akin to an MP3 than it is to an MPEG-2 video. I see this has been a problem that has been cropping up for several years for other floks as well but with no actual “This Works Type Solutions”. It shows them for other video file types though. For no apparent reason I can think of my laptop quit displaying preview images for those video file types. Now WMP still plays them but there is no preview image only a Blue Music Note and a Piece of Film where the preview image should be. Wait for the list of programs installed on your computer to be populated. Click on Set your default programs in the right pane of the window. And they would play perfectly if I clicked on the image. Click on the search result titled Default Programs.
I used to transfer my mp4 files from my LG 5 phone with no problem to my Dell XPS L502X and be able to see a preview image in Windows Explorer. I even ran Tweaking Windows in safe mode. Ran a lot of command line programs to check out the operating system and discs.
Will this fix missing mp3 and mp4 video preview thumbnail images in Windows 7 Ultimate? I have tried a lot of different fixes thinking the problem was in Windows Media Player that were suggestions from different forums.
